How can ART MV help you?
Help ART MV create content, outreach, and collaborations that truly meet the needs of island artists!
This brief questionnaire is designed to gather insights about your artistic journey and preferences. While we won’t ask for any personally identifying information, we do request some general demographic details (such as your art medium and how long you’ve been creating) to better understand our audience.
Your input is invaluable in shaping our efforts to serve and support the vibrant island art community. Please complete the form to the best of your ability—the more you share, the better we can tailor our content and resources.

Survey Results
Thank you to all of the island artists who have completed our Artist Survey so far. The information we gather from your responses helps The Artist Resource Tribune of Martha’s Vineyard to shape our mission and goals.
Our survey takes respondents, on average, about 10 minutes to complete and right now (January 13, 2025) we have a 92% completion rate! That means the majority of artist who start the survey make it through the whole thing!
Below is some of what we’ve learned from you so far. Please note the date for each data set. Since our survey is on-going, each graph is a snapshot in time based on the responses to that point. This page will be updated occasionally to reflect new data.

1. What kind of artist are you?
This question has the largest range of answers. Artists are welcome to choose multiple answers as many of us do more than one kind of art. You’ll notice most respondents so far have answered “other.” They were given the ability to type out an explanation for their “other” kind of art. Responses ranged from mixed media to found object sculpture & assemblage; from leatherworker to shell artist, and from TikTok influencer to people maker. You guys seriously crack us up! As we refine our survey you may see some of these categories as listed options.
2. How long have you been selling your art?
This data set has some potential for inaccuracy. Since launching our Artist Survey, the wording of this question has been modified to be less cute, and more easily understood. For example, we no longer ask artists if they’ve been selling art longer than MV has had a rotary. Sorry about that. The creativity got away from us there. We’ve done our best to keep totals accurate while adjusting the answer parameters.

3. How did you hear about ART MV?
Turns out we didn’t have to spend money on all those fliers since no one found out about us from them (yet). But that is why this kind of question is helpful. Seems our social media campaigns have been paying off. We also noticed that every respondent that chose “other” filled in the blank to let us know that our founder, Saundra LaBell, bullied them into doing our survey. We have corrected the chart to reflect that data.
4. Please complete the sentence: Art is…
What is art? Turns out it’s a lot of different things. Here are just some of the answers (that would fit in the graphic) we got from artists who responded to our survey so far. Some respondents answered in a single word, and others wrote a paragraph. All correct answers in our opinion. A+ everyone!

5. – 6. coming soon…
The math involved with presenting the complete information from these questions literally hurts, but we’re working on it. What even are weighted ranks? Oooouuuuccchhhh!
7. What kind of class/workshop would you find beneficial?

Being a professional artist is so much more than just making art. I mean, look at us…doing math! Making charts! What the heck! Getting help with all the different parts of your art business will help you spend less time guessing and more time creating. So what classes or workshops would you find most beneficial?
